HTC Wildfire: A Review by a First Time User

(After reading Sandeep Sir's Blog i also decided to post similar blog about my new handset. So this blog inspired from above blog.)

After using various handset of Nokia, I moved to Google’s Android. That’s why I bought the HTC Wildfire. Actually curiosity about Android stuff was the main reason behind this deal... :-). Apart from it, I had a strong wish for a mobile handset which have -
Good user interface, Good speed, Good connectivity(voice and Internet), Good apps, .....etc.etc...

Now...I am satisfied because this handset fulfills all these criteria.
Good feature:-

  • Handset is very good looking. Its big TFT LCD with nice home screen is very beautiful. Widget clock with weather notification works great. It has “Pinch to zoom” feature i.e. you can zoom photo/ web-page with your two fingers.
  • Its speed is great. Powered by 528 MHz Qualcomm processor and CPU, RAM 384MB you can navigate one apps to another or one screen to another with no any wait.
  • Camera:- 5 Mega pixel, Auto focus with flash. You can Geotag your photo i.e. you can place you photo on exact location on Google map.
  • GPS with Google Map:- This is very useful for finding any place. You can download app- “My Tracks” which enables you to record GPS tracks and view live statistics – such as time, speed, distance, and elevation – while hiking, biking, running or participating in other outdoor activities. Once recorded, you can share your tracks, upload them to Google Spreadsheets and visualize them on Google My Maps.
  • Widget and Apps:- You can download useful apps from “Android Market” for free or paid. Although preinstalled apps are Friend Streaming, Peep, Google map, Gmail, Talk, YouTube Footprints. But you can download various useful apps for free from Android Market such as Goggles, Google Sky Map, RunKeeper, My Tracks etc.
  • Online Social Networking(OSN):- I think this phone is specialized for OSN activities in a very smart manner. Phone comes with pre installed widget like Friend Streaming, Peep. These apps are providing live status of your friend.
  • Phone Contacts/Numbers sync with Google Contacts:- This is great feature. You can set your contacts sync with Google Contact. The great advantage: Unfortunately when you lost your phone, you can retrieve these valuable contacts from your Google account... :-)
  • Customization:- This phone have great customization. You can add or remove any apps, any widget from your home screen in a very easy manner.
  • Phone's ringer automatically lowers the ring volume when you lift up the phone or mutes when you flip the phone face down.
  • Tethering:- You can share your internet with your PC or Laptop through USB. (I will describe it in my next post in this blog-"How to Tether in HTC Wildfire") It also works nice. Now i can use Internet in my laptop by connecting this phone through USB. I have subscribed 10/- per day “unlimited mobile office” plan in my Airtel SIM i.e. I am using Rs.300/- unlimited Internet connection with average speed of 100kbps....sounds great naaa....!

Drawbacks:-

  • Mobile cover is not provided:- It would be better if HTC provide a handset case, because handset is very delicate.
  • Hindi Fonts not supported:- Hindi / Devnagri(UTF8) fonts is not supported by Android phones. So webpage containing these fonts appears as blank boxes. Although request for this feature is made by various user in official forum. Android must support Hindi / Devnagri font because these fonts are now regularly used in many websites and blogs.
  • Voice search not available:- Voice Search only available on Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above. Because this phone having 2.1 verson, so it lacs this feature.
  • Google Docs cant edit:- Google Docs can not be edited in this handset. But here is solution: GDocs apps makes this happend.

My Verdict:-
If you are seeking a mobile handset that read your email, post your status to online social networking sites, chat with your relative and friends in a very user friendly manner....then here you go.
